Bill Raftery and Gus Johnson Call Abby Wambach’s Goal vs. Brazil

How the hell could CBS get rid of Gus Johnson? Every time he calls a match or game it officially makes watching any sporting event 1000 times better. Gus could call a “match” of me vs. hundreds of cars in traffic on my way to work and make it sound as exciting as the Super Bowl. Oh, and I guess Bill Raftery is okay too. Onions!

Man, I miss college basketball so much already.

Pete Davis - “Fool”

I know, I know, I’ve been real lazy lately in updating the blog. I’ve just been consumed by real life for the past couple of weeks that I completely neglected the Comeback Joe. But I came back to post this Music (Monday) Tuesday selection just because it’s too good to pass up. Pete Davis is an emerging artists out of the Philadelphia area who just dropped his newest album The Pottsville Conglomerate. “Fool” is one of the free available tracks for download; do yourself a favor and go to his Band Camp page to listen to the rest of the album. It’s really, really good.

Frank Ocean - “Novacane”

I heard this on the radio a few days ago and now it’s my jam. Love the beat.

Meet the Crazy Dancing Filipino Traffic Cop

This guy’s got so much swag I can’t even take it. But if you ask me, this guy’s in the wrong profession because who wouldn’t slow down their car to catch a glimpse of this guy? Seriously that one move at 0:16 would stop traffic alone. Swag overload.

The Comb-Overs - “20 Says”

The Comb-Overs is a one-man band fronted by the extremely talented Pete Davis. This guy seriously needs to be signed to a major label soon. Here’s one of his classic tracks and one of my favorites.

Dallas Mavericks Win the NBA Championship

I’m not a Dallas Mavericks fan, but like the rest of the world, I wanted to see LeFraud James crumble under the pressure and lose another shot at a NBA title. And tonight, we got just that. James was again a no-show during clutch time and Dwyane Wade, the real star of the Miami Heat, was visually frustrated that his sidekick seemingly disappeared when he was needed the most. On the other side, you gotta feel great for Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, and especially Dirk Nowitzki. The latter is absolutely underrated in the discussion of the all-time greats and now, after finally getting that elusive NBA championship, becomes a top-20 player all time in my book. Congratulations to that big German bastard.

Wow, UConn and a team not named the Miami Heat win championships in the same year? Best basketball year ever.

And the Rich Get Richer — Omar Calhoun Commits to UCONN

Only a few days after five-star recruit DeAndre Daniels committed to UConn, Omar Calhoun, a 6’4”, 185lb shooting guard ranked #38 overall in the class of 2012 (no relation to Jimmy), committed to the Huskies today. Perhaps taken as a bit of insurance should Jeremy Lamb enter the draft after next year, Calhoun is quite frankly an elite recruit that should be jumping up even further in the rankings after this summer. Trust me, Jim Calhoun is extremely lucky to get this guy. He’s the real deal and he’s only going to get better.

It’s insane to think about how good this team will be in 2012 — should every current player stay, of course. Add in the fact that Andre Drummond, the consensus #1 recruit in 2012 is considered a heavy lean to commit to Connecticut, and you can almost smell another NCAA championship brewing in two years. Let this put an end to all doubt that Jim Calhoun might not come back. He’s going to come back, and something tells me he’s gearing up for a major run at another title with a loaded 2012 team.

For now, all I can say is Omar comin’! Omar comin’ yo!

DeAndre Daniels Commits to UCONN

DeAndre Daniels, a 6’8”, 180lbs small forward from Florida just committed to UConn today. And in doing so, he further cemented Connecticut’s status as “Wing U”. As you can see from the video above, Daniels has great handle for a kid his size and can really stroke the 3 point shot. He’s rated as the #10 overall player and a 5-star recruit by Rivals.com. And with other wing players Jeremy Lamb and Roscoe Smith, the Huskies will cause matchup nightmares for the opposing defense this year. I’m absolutely thrilled that DeAndre is coming on board. With his addition and the fact that the team returns essentially everyone but Kemba Walker from a NCAA Championship year, UConn should be a preseason top-5 team this year and big things can and should be expected. Right now, I see a potential starting lineup of Shabazz Napier, Lamb, Daniels, Smith, and Alex Oriakhi.

What made this more awesome is the fact that UConn was supposedly not even on Daniels’ radar. But according to Andy Katz of ESPN: “Calhoun was recruiting DeAndre Daniels while walking into the White House May 16. Another reason why he’s not retiring”. It’s unreal that at age 69, Jimmy boy still has what it takes to recruit and coach with the best of them. Not a dime back and well worth it. Calhoun is simply a living legend. Let’s go Huskies! Get another championship next year!

Billy Joel - “Summer, Highland Falls”

This is just straight up, a very underrated song by sir William Joel, off his Turnstiles album. Love the lyrics and the whole feel of this one. Summer jam for sure.

Boston Bruins “We R Who We R” Parody

I know, I know. You see the walrus in jorts before you even play the video and think it’s not even worth your time. But trust me, just hit play. I don’t know how, but somehow the three least talented people in the world were assembled to create this abomination of a “parody” song and the end result was an instant classic.

Never in my life have I rooted for anything Canadian over American, but I might have to make an exception for the Canucks after seeing this video. Go Vancouver! Lord Stanley is yours!
